 Friends of Veritas Academy

Dear Friends,

We are eager to bring you a special edition of our Friends of Veritas Newsletter to announce our newly named Head of School and School Heads for the coming fall. These leaders are joining a seasoned leadership team and will continue to build on the strong foundation laid by Jef and Starrla Fowler since Veritas's founding in 2004. We rejoice in God's provision and answered prayers for our school and community!

In addition to reading more about our leaders below, please also make plans to join us on Wednesday, May 24, at 11am for our Year-End Assembly and community honoring of the Fowlers. There are a few other special opportunities to join us on campus before then, so you may want to have your calendar handy while you read!

Introducing our New Head of School

After months of prayer and partnering with Executive Search Firm CarterBaldwin, the Veritas School Board is pleased to announce that Cameron Cook has been named Head of School at Veritas Academy. Cameron currently serves as the Chief Business Officer for Veritas, and he will assume the Head of School role on July 1. In addition to reading the full announcement below, you can also hear from Cameron himself.

Meet Our New School Heads

Just before Spring Break, we announced the leaders of each school level for the 2023-2024 school year. We are grateful to have committed and respected leaders at the helm of each school, who are supported by equally experienced and dedicated faculty and fellow administrators.

Grammar School Head

Mrs. Dani Cowen will be leading the Grammar School after 10 years of teaching and 4 years of co-teaching here at Veritas. She has also held the position of team lead for many years.

School of Logic Head

Mrs. Jenny McLatcher will be heading up the School of Logic where she taught math and history, along with coaching volleyball and soccer, before moving into her current role as Grammar School Head almost 3 years ago.

School of Rhetoric Head

Mrs. Angie Thompson has been named our School of Rhetoric Head (no longer interim) after having successfully led the SR all school year, which is no surprise given her 15 years of experience teaching and leading at Veritas.

Join Us for Senior Thesis Presentations

Culminating many years of challenging academic effort and accomplishment, Veritas Academy Seniors face their final hurdle in the Senior Thesis capstone event in which each student presents a 20-minute memorized oral presentation on a topic they have researched for the entire year, followed by a 20-minute defense before a panel of judges.

The Class of 2023 began sharing their Senior Thesis presentations on Wednesday, April 19, with the Top 16 Competition to begin on Monday, April 24, and the Final Fourum™ on Friday, April 28, to serve as the concluding event. We would love to have you and your family join us for one or more of the evenings, and below you will find the daily presentation schedule, thesis descriptions, and more!

Grandparent Gathering on May 3rd!

Our Grandparent's Gathering in December was not your only chance to join us this year.  All Veritas Grandparents are invited to next month's gathering on Wednesday, May 3, at 2pm in the Auditorium for an opportunity to connect with one another and to hear from our Family Ministries mentor and author Ellen Schuknecht. Ellen's experience as an educator and grandparent provides a unique perspective on how grandparents can communicate and connect with their grandkids. We hope you can join us for this special time of equipping and connection, and that you will stick around to attend The Wind in the Willows 5th/6th grade play with your grandkids and family.

Year-End Assembly & Celebration of the Fowlers

Please join us on campus on Wednesday, May 24, at 11am for our Year-End Assembly and community honoring of administrators Jef & Starrla Fowler, who are also one of Veritas's four founding families.  This is a sweet opportunity to gather as we wrap up this school year and reflect on the dedication and devotion that the Fowlers have given to our school over the last 19 years. This celebration will lead into our Defender Dad Cookout and the spring football game, so bring a chair and come enjoy the afternoon with us!

Graduation is Almost Here!

The Veritas Class of 2023 will be graduating on Friday, May 26, at 7:15pm, in the Meadow. We hope to see you here on campus to support our almost-graduates! For those unable to attend, we will be recording the event, and will have it available in our next edition of this newsletter. Congratulations, Seniors!
