2020.04.24--A Few Updates & HOS Homework

April 24, 2020
By Jef Fowler, HOS

Happy Friday, Veritas!

No big updates this week as we await more details (expected next Mon) on Gov. Abbott’s plans for reopening Texas; so start the weekend right by viewing our Senior Theses Final Fourum™ and top 16 presentations posted online (details below)! A special panel of the most intimidating interrogators...er, curiously inquisitive questioners...among our faculty were assembled for this evening's 20-minute defense portion of each presentation, so be sure to watch each video in its entirety to see how well our Seniors promote and defend their interesting theses.

With just two weeks remaining of regular classes, then dead week, and then finals, we’re nearing the end of this one-of-a-kind (hopefully) school year. Let’s bear down and finish well. And please keep participating in the periodical surveys to help us to maintain a proper balance of workload by grade level...or just abdicate that influence to the parents of your─or your kids’─classmates. ;-)

Anticipating that no public gatherings of any significant size will be allowed through May, we are making preliminary plans for a Veritas reunion & graduation no earlier than Fri, June 5. Please do not write that in ink in your calendar! Just know that that is likely to be the earliest possible date for a regathering, if it is then permissible by state and local authorities. My hunch is that it will be later─and we may even end up just picking a date later in the summer so that we can begin planning around it with more certainty─but we’ll know and communicate more about that in the next week or two.

Your HOS Homework this week is quite simple and applies to every single person in the community (students, parents, teachers, staff, et al): write and mail a letter─a hand-written letter─to someone, ideally someone from your past whom you see infrequently. Bonus points for finding and successfully using an old fashioned fountain pen. Double bonus for using a quill and inkwell.

BTW, these HOS Homework assignments are cumulative...meaning that past assignments persist into each new week. So, keep walking, talking, and serving each other!

That is all.
