2020.05.05--Graduation is On!
Latest Update from Jef: Graduation is On!
Earlier this week, we learned that in-person, outdoor graduations will be allowed on or after May 29, provided that social distancing and several other guidelines are followed. Indoor graduations are banned for the foreseeable future. Therefore, we are scheduling an outdoor graduation for the Veritas Class of 2020 in the early evening of Fri, Jun 5, on the Veritas campus, with the next evening serving as a back-up date in the event of inclement weather.
At this point, there is still no sign that other large gatherings will be allowed to happen by June 5th, so we are not expecting our annual year-end cookout celebration to be able to immediately precede graduation. If something changes, however, we will try to make that happen. Also, we are still considering options for our less formal Kindergarten graduation, but the same state-issued guidance applies even for these ceremonies celebrating our littlest students. More details will be provided as our graduation planning continues.
Homework from the HOS: Earlier this week, I read encouragement from a colleague at another institution who reminded me that our greatest legacy as parents is not our careers, creations, or accomplishments, but our kids and families. He went on to say that there is no success without succession and that what should matter most to us is that what matters most (a spiritual legacy of faith in Christ) is passed on to the next generation. Parents, this week let’s realize that we may never again have as captive of an audience with our kids as we have right now, especially with the voices of their peers being all but muted; so let’s be intentional in making the most of the various moments that we experience with our kids this week to share truly important things. Share your testimony. (Students, your homework is to ask your parents to share their testimony with you.)
That is all.
