Covid Updates from our Head of School
The mission and vision of Veritas Academy has remained unchanged since the founding of the school and is rooted in partnership. We continue to believe that together we are better, and this is at the forefront of our minds as we navigate this school year's many moving pieces.
Our primary objective for the 2020-2021 school year is to maximize in-person, on-campus instruction for our students, conducted in a manner that is as safe as reasonably and practically possible for both our kids and their teachers. Striking this balance will not be the easiest thing we attempt this year, and yet we believe it is possible as we remain committed to supporting the safety of our community and upholding the mission and values of Veritas Academy that have brought us together.
Week 20 Covid Update & Area Numbers
Week 20 Covid Recap
Our school nurse has continued to monitor the 8th grade class carefully after the on-campus presence of a Covid-positive student early last week. Fortunately, we have seen no evidence of community spread from the close contacts that occurred; therefore, the 8th graders will be returning to campus on Mon, Feb 1. Ditto for the two quarantined class cohorts in the Grammar School.
Though it is not yet the end of the day on Friday, Mrs. Erica Thompson…er, excuse me, Hygieia, the goddess of health, cleanliness, and sanitation (as Erica is known in this week’s Greek games in the SR)...has yet to report even one new positive Covid test among Veritas students or employees this week. Hooray!
And the good news this week does not appear to be limited to the Veritas community, but rather area-wide with both new cases and new hospitalizations in Austin and Travis County dropping down from record high levels. To be sure, both numbers are still quite high, but at least they are now headed in the right direction. Please refer to the charts below.
